The Council of the University of KwaZulu-Natal announces the appointment of Professor Nana Poku as the University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal with effect from the 1 October 2018. He is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and College Head of Law and Management Studies at the University.

This follows the resignation of Dr Albert van Jaarsveld who takes on a new role of Director General and CEO of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IISA) in Austria.

Professor Poku’s acting appointment will continue until the process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor and Principal is concluded. The University has embarked on a recruitment process to fill this important position.

On behalf of Council, I thank Professor Poku for stepping into this vital role and I trust that the University Community and all stakeholders will afford him the necessary cooperation and support. The Council also expresses appreciation to Dr van Jaarsveld for his leadership during his tenure, and welcomes Professor Poku to this important responsibility.
