Department of Higher Education and Training minister Dr Blade Nzimande has encouraged the WorldSkills SA team to let their spirit of camaraderie, brotherhood and sisterhood during the competition shine.

Nzimande was talking to the 22 competitors who left to compete in the 44th WorldSkills Competition which will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 15 to 17 October.

He also says the team should keep up their mental strength, high levels of discipline and endurance, which would be critical success factors that would separate “the best of the best competitors in Abu Dhabi.

The WorldSkills competition occurs every two years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. The competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skills competitions in WorldSkills member countries and regions.

Nizimande adds that participation at this International competition is about being part of a new global movement on skills development, education and training.

He believes it assists in mapping a new reformed TVET education and training system which promises to improve the supply of requisite skills for industrialisation and digitalisation for a better economic growth path, democratised social cohesion and good citizenry.
