Both recruiters and job seekers’ activity is on the rise, with a reported increase in job searches and recruitment activity last month, when compared to September.
This is according to the latest CareerJunction Index (CJI) executive summary, which reports on the online labour dynamics in South Africa. The report provides a detailed analysis of the relative ratio of supply and demand in the online job market, based on data gathered from the CareerJunction website. .
Top jobs
The jobs that have shown an increase in demand and are therefore popular in the online job market are the following positions:
- Client/Customer Support
- Business Development
- Admin Clerk.
Sought-after skills
The report goes on to list the skill sets that are in high demand. Software development skills remain the most sought-after IT skills, as well as managerial skills, with a particular focus on finance managers. According to the research conducted, sales consulting skills are in high demand, showing a 35% spike since June.
Best employment prospects
But what are the statistics in terms of hiring activity? Based on the online trends, the following five sectors show optimistic employment prospects.
- Medical and health
- Information technology
- Sales
- Business and management
- Manufacturing and assembly.
Overall, the CJI settles at 94 index points, indicating an increase in job search activity in the local job market. As this score is below 100, it means that there is increased competition within the online job market for job seekers, as well as less job opportunities for them. Whilst a score over 100 would indicate a healthier market for job seekers, with the demand for employment outweighing the supply.
