Minister Pandor to officially open KSD TVET student accommodation

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor, will on Wednesday, 18 July 2018 at 08h00, officially open newly refurbished state-of-the-art student accommodation at King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD)’s TVET College in Umtata.

Aptly named after Tata Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu, whose centenaries South Africa is celebrating, this year, the two residences cost about R60 Million to build and provide 530 beds to students.

At 11h00, Minister Pandor will attend the annual Mandela Day Career Development Festival at Mandela School of Science and Technology at Mvezo in Umtata.

The Mandela Day Career Development Festival provides high school learners from surrounding rural areas the opportunity to interact with and get career guidance and information on career construction and decisions, Post-School Education and Training (PSET) study opportunities, and funding for studies.

Special emphasis is given to apprenticeships, learnerships and studies at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges.  Local institutions of higher learning and training, Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) and industry professionals

A total of 3 197 Grade 11 and 12 learners from 10 schools will participate in the festival over a period of three days.

Minister Pandor will be joined by the MEC for Education in Eastern Cape, Mandla Makupula, the Executive Mayor of O.R Tambo District Municipality, Nomakhosaza Meth and Chief Mandla Mandela.
