An internal investigation has been commissioned following a report that Walter Sisulu University (WSU) employee/s may have assisted an outsider to defraud the University of over R1,6 million. Reports allege that the outsider may have been assisted by an employee or employees to divert funds meant for student allowances to the fraudster’s personal account.

Preliminary internal investigations indicate that the crimes occurred between 2014 and 2016.

This matter is receiving high priority within the University. WSU has zero tolerance for fraud and corruption and will deal with any staff members that participate and/or enable criminal activities.

“We will offer full support to any and all external investigators to ensure that those who are part of crimes committed are charged”, said Yonela Tukwayo the Spokesperson of WSU
