The UJ Choir is one of the University’s flagship student offerings and continues to represent with distinction.
Under the guidance of renowned Choir Master, Renette Bouwer, the UJ Choir is one of the best in the country. Shortly after her return from the Musica Mundi Choral Music workshops currently taking place in China’s Zhangijane City, the UJ Choir will take part in the KUESTA Choir Festival on 8 & 9 September 2017.
The festival is a highlight on the annual choral calendar, bringing together South Africa’s, as well as some of the world’s best university choirs. KUESTA promises to be a noteworthy festival, with excellent performances by four South African university choirs from the University of Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela University, NWU-Puk and Stellenbosch University.
Bouwer says: “After the success of Varsity Sing in 2017, the Choir is geared to be a favourite at KUESTA where they will share the stage with NMMU, Maties and PUKKE. Its 2017 repertoire includes some contemporary music, a touch of jazz, and as always the colourful richness of our African music.”
The UJ Choir’s dedication to creating beautiful harmonies, while exploring new ways of making music, are some of the reasons why the UJ Choir attracts full houses wherever they perform.
The Choir will embark on a tour in mid-September. They will sing their way into the hearts of audiences in Knysna on 12 September, in Bloemfontein on 14 September, Potchefstroom on 16 September, rounding off the tour in Lichtenburg on 17 September.
