Mr Trueman Tandabantu Goba, the founder member of one of the world’s largest international Civil Engineering Consultancies, Hatch Goba, will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) on Wednesday, 18 April 2018.

Goba has made a significant contribution to engineering leadership and mentoring in the design and construction of critical national infrastructure in South Africa.

He is currently one of most influential civil engineers in the country, with experience and expertise in planning and delivery of industrial and public infrastructure, particularly water and transportation.

Goba is the first black South African to have graduated in Civil Engineering from UKZN.

He is a member of the National Planning Commission and serves on the Board of the UKZN Foundation. He served two terms as President of the Engineering Council of South Africa and was the recipient of a Gold Medal from the South African Institution of Civil Engineering – the highest honour awarded by the SAICE.

Goba also leads accreditation teams for Bachelor of Engineering programmes at South African universities and is the Vice-President of the South African Academy of Engineering.

Goba will be capped Doctor of Engineering (honoris causa) at 19h00 on Wednesday, 18 April at the UKZN Westville campus.
