Christmas cheer came early for Mbambangwe High School in Amanzimtoti as it embarked on its journey to reach a 100% pass rate. The state-of-the-art science laboratory was donated to the school by SAPREF and the official opening ceremony was held on 5 December 2023.
“This donation forms part of SAPREF’s contribution to the sustainable development of STEM subjects while encouraging learners to consider careers in the sciences as these have great opportunities in the industry”, said Mpume Mbambo, SAPREF’s HR Manager.
Mbambangwe High School was once a poor-performing school with a matric pass rate of 23%. In the 2022 academic year, Mbambangwe achieved a 92% pass rate. This was done through the combined efforts of the school and the community.
“While teachers have a difficult task of ensuring that learners are taught and understand, as an industry we have an opportunity to provide much-needed resources to aid the process of learning,” said Rodney Youldon, SAPREF’s Managing Director.
