Dr Nkosinathi Shongwe, survived a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of his friend, Tumelo Seliane, a final year medical student at UKZN in 2015.
Shongwe sustained serious neurological damage and could not continue with his studies for at least a year, after tragedy struck the group of friends. In 2016, another survivor of the initial accident, Dr Sphesihle Luvuyo Ngubane, then a medical intern, passed away tragically in another devastating car crash.
Through sheer determination and a strong faith in God, Shongwe, a devout Christian; graduated on the 20th April with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery degree from UKZN.
Said Shongwe, ‘All Glory be to God. I am an enlisted soldier in the army of the almighty and through his will, I will soldier on.’
