UKZN Pharmacy student Ms Naeema Suleman received the Malegapuru W Makgoba Scholarship.
The Scholarship is awarded to five top-ranked undergraduates proceeding from first-year to second-year of study in each of the four Colleges at UKZN.
‘I feel extremely honoured and humbled to have been awarded this scholarship by UKZN. Being gifted with this award is a clear indication of the hard work I have put into my studies. It (the scholarship) will of course motivate me to keep striving and working, as I know that my hard work and dedication is being paid off. Clearly, UKZN has recognised my hard work and sacrifice,’ said Suleman.
Her parents are extremely proud of her achievement. ‘My parents are my pillars of strength. Without their support and encouragement, I would not have been able to put in the hard work and sacrifice that I am being rewarded for today. I truly appreciate the contribution that they make in my life and my career,’ she said.
According to Suleman, her award serves as a tool of motivation for her to keep up the hard work and effort that she puts into her studies, ‘I see this scholarship as a source of encouragement to maintain the level of work ethic that I have.’
The support and motivation she receives from her family and friends keep her striving for the best. ‘My family are always by my side to guide me and give me advice when I need it. Furthermore, being awarded this scholarship by UKZN shows me that my hard work is being paid off, thus this scholarship motivates me to work even harder,’ she said.
She advised her fellow students to keep working hard and striving for the best, ‘Always put your work first. Seek advice from your elders when needed. Keeping the company of good and hard-working people moulds you into the person you aspire to become in the future,’ she added.
Suleman is grateful to UKZN and the funders of the scholarship, ‘Studying at UKZN is indeed an honour and being awarded this scholarship just shows how much UKZN has to offer.’
