The Coega Development Corporation signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Ingwe Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) College at the Coega Business Centre in Gqeberha yesterday.
The agreement signifies the commencement of a formal relationship between Coega and the Ingwe TVET College for project preparation and infrastructure development of the five Ingwe TVET campuses over the next three years.
In terms of the MOA, Coega as a trusted implementing agent of choice, will play a significant role in the further development of much-needed infrastructure in the Mount Frere Campus and Administration, Mount Fletcher Campus, Maluti Campus, Siteto Campus and Ngqungqushe Campus.
The primary objective of the Ingwe TVET College Infrastructure Programme is to enhance the quality of education provided, by creating a conducive teaching and learning environment for educators and students.
The college’s Strategic Plan is guided by the South African National Development Plan, which seeks to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality and is therefore focused on the development of infrastructure facilities, digital economy integration, and the introduction of specialised centres to meet the high demand for vocational and occupational skills.
Dr Mpumi Mabula, Coega Executive Manager for Infrastructure Planning and Development shared: “The MOA marks the establishment of a partnership between Coega and Ingwe TVET College for engaging on project preparation and packaging services for funding applications, which leads to the implementation of the infrastructure projects when the requisite funding is secured.”
Speaking on behalf of the Ingwe TVET College, Principal of Ingwe, Bheki Nkonyane, explains the significance of the partnership: “This partnership puts our college on a process map of realising our vision – to be the best in the world. It provides us with both infrastructural and technological ability to create access to the TVET sector. Through this, we hope not only to create access but also to become instrumental in narrowing the three major gaps engulfing our society – poverty,
inequality, and unemployment.” We want to nurture students who will not only seek employment but most importantly, create employment and advance the 4th Industrial Revolution.
According to Sphelele Matiwane, Coega’s Acting Programme Director for Coega Mthatha: “The Ingwe TVET College operates in a province facing poverty-related challenges and comprises students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our role as a trusted infrastructure implementing agent of choice is pivotal in driving substantial socio-economic impact and progress in infrastructure development.”
An integral element of Coega’s operations is its capacity to be resourceful. Every component of Coega’s business works to advance its vision as a leading catalyst for the championing of socio-economic development. Whether it be through direct skills development and training, or the development of infrastructure to enable institutions to advance their skills development objectives, Coega is geared to promote a better future for all.
“As an implementing agent, we pledge to consistently put our experience and knowledge to good use to the benefit of others throughout the province, and we strive to do an excellent job in managing the Ingwe TVET Infrastructure Programme to support and champion socio-economic development throughout the country,” concluded Dr Mabula.
Other notable projects implemented by the Coega Development Corporation, include, amongst others, the Anton Lembede Maths, Science and Technology Academy, Pholela Special School for Learners with Special Educational Needs, Nomzamo Madikizela Mandela Primary School, and others throughout the country. We encourage other Districts throughout the country to partner with Coega to fast-track the implementation of infrastructure programmes.
