Thembinkosi Gwala returns from a successful soccer tournament

DUT football striker Thembinkosi Gwala has returned from a brilliant successful national tournament that was held in Soweto, Johannesburg in July 2017.

The third year Sport Studies Management student from Tshelimnyama in Pinetown was the only student from the DUT’s Boys Football team to be selected to be part of the University Sport South Africa’s (USSA) national team to play for the SAB League.

Inspired by Sundowns player Percy Tau, Gwala has been playing for the DUT males soccer team since his arrival at the University and he said being selected to represent USSA’s national team has been, by far, the biggest highlight of his career.

“I started playing football when I was four years old and this game is my life. I am honored to have been offered the opportunity to showcase my talent nationally with other football players. This has given me hope that my future in this sport is bright,” said Gwala.

Gwala scored the winning goal during the group stages of the tournament, which made his team lead by 1-0. AmaZulu Football Development team and White City FC are some of the teams that he (Gwala) has played for.
