Gauteng has once again emerged as the top paying province from April to November 2017, according to jobs site CareerJunction, which published its updated salary review for 2017.

The salary review has been compiled exclusively for the South African market and represents the cost-to-company salary packages in across various sectors.

The data used to populate the report came from the more than 20,000 jobs posted on their website.

Gauteng was the top paying province across eight of the 10 sectors.

The two exceptions were the information & communication technology (ICT) and medical & health sectors.

In the case of ICT, the Western Cape was the top place to work for ICT professionals.

KwaZulu-Natal came out as the top paying province for the medical and health sectors.

The survey says that salaries in these regions are above average, most likely due to skill shortages.

Gauteng was the second paying province in the medical and health sector.

Remuneration is on the lower end of the scale for professionals residing in the Western Cape where professionals can expect to earn 8-10% below average.

The biggest difference in earnings per region were found in the marketing sector, with marketing professionals residing in Gauteng seeming to have the upper hand when comparing paycheques across various provinces.

Marketing professionals in Gauteng earn up to 17% above average, while in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, salaries are well below average.

Some marketing professionals in KwaZulu-Natal earn up to 18% below the average.
