

DUT Durban and Midlands netball teams emerged victorious in 2017

The Durban University of Technology’s Netball Teams had a successful 2017 KZN University Sports South Africa (USSA) League.
USSA is the controlling body of all sports played at tertiary institutions in South Africa. The league commenced in March 2017 and ended early October. The Durban Campus DUT team started like a house on fire and maintained their impressive record up until the end of the season. Although there were challenges with some games, the team never gave up and kept striving for excellence unleashing a reign of terror to its opponents.
Competing against seven university teams, theDUT Durban and Midlands teams were part of the four teams that went to contest for the number one position in the competitive league. The top teams that DUT had to contest were the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Pietermaritzburg Campus and University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Howard College campus. During the semi-finals, DUT played against UKZN Howard College and the two Pietermaritzburg teams being DUT Midlands Campus and UKZN Pietermaritzburg campus were also through to the semi-finals.
During the semi-finals, DUT’s Amanda Ntshangase was the leading player with 19 goals followed by Nomcebo Nkosi with seven goals.
In the finals both DUT team had to compete with each other and DUT Durban Campus ended up taking the top position with 29-19. Both Ntshangase and Nkosi proved to be a force to be reckoned with leading DUT Durban Campus to victory with scoring 20 goals and nine respectively.
For emerging as winners, the DUT Durban Netball team returned home with 13 kit bags, 15 gold medals, flat markers and an Adidas kit.
“It is good that both DUT teams ended up in the finals, however, we are happier that the Durban Campus team became the champions of the league. I must congratulate Ntshangase and Nkosi for their outstanding performances during all our matches,” said Lelethu Mpentsheni, DUT Durban Campus’s Netball Captain.
