29-year old Boshof local, Matlaleng Lebitsa, discovered her passion for health and safety (HSE) while shadowing her colleagues at Boshof Solar Power.

Having started work as a general worker, almost seven years ago, her interest in HSE was piqued and she is now pursuing her passion, a National Diploma in Health & Safety, through a bursary funded by Boshof Solar Power.

Matlaleng hopes to complete her two-year diploma by the end of 2023, with plans to pursue a career in the HSE field, where she can put her skills into practice, implementing workplace health and safety principles.

“This bursary means so much to me as it has changed my life and I can now become the person I have always wanted to be and look forward to being able to look after the health and safety of my fellow co-workers and working environment.

“This opportunity has allowed me to dream of a future where I can be an independent woman working in this interesting field of work,” commented Matlaleng.

She is the fourth beneficiary of this specific programme, offered to individuals who reside within the Boshof community area. Boshof Solar Power’s funding forms part of a broader programme, namely the national Globeleq Scholarship Fund, which has been in operation for the last seven years.

The programme utilises a less conventional and holistic approach to funding, by typically not only focusing on academic achievement, but rather on the financial need, and location of the students.

“Matlaleng is a dedicated person with a vision to improve her life. The fact that she has not limited her vision and dreams for her career, is outstanding,” concluded Zuki Ndlela, Economic Development Specialist for Boshof Solar Power.
