Master student who wish to further their studies in business management, agriculture, food science and nutrition, and public administration have just over a month to apply for the prestigious Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme.

The scholarship programme will also make on one award only for a fellowship in Human Rights Law (LLM in Law) at Trinity College Dublin.

This will be selected by the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC).

In the Master’s programme, 13 awards will be made for postgraduate study in business management, agriculture, food science and nutrition, and public administration:

Business Management 

  • Economics, Accounting, and Human Resource Management and Business

Agriculture, Food Science & Nutrition

  • Agriculture, Climate Change, Rural Development and Sustainability Food Security and Applied Sciences

Public Administration

  • Economics, Accounting, and Human Resource Management, Public Health and Global Health.

Other eligibility criteria includes:

  • be a South African citizen holding a South African Permanent Residence Permit
  • have achieved the necessary standard to be accepted onto a postgraduate course in an institute of higher education in Ireland
  • be seeking funding for a full-time postgraduate programme in one of the above listed subject areas
  • be able to take up fellowship in the academic year 2017/2018
  • Not have already applied for a course at an institution in Ireland – if you have already been admitted to a university you are not eligible
  • Please note applicants already in possession of a Master’s degree are not eligible

This one-year Master’s degree study in Ireland begins in September 2018.

The scholarship is offered by way of a partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training and the Canon Collins Trust

The Department of Higher Education and Training says that the fellowship was set up in 2012 in honour of the late Professor Kader Asmal, who taught law at Trinity College Dublin for 27 years, specialising in human rights, labour, and international law

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 20 February 2018.
