According to Job Mail lawyers are the top earners in South Africa, and can earn up to R655,000 per annum. Payscale expands that experienced lawyers can earn up to R729,087 annually, the highest paying skills associated with this job being commercial, contract negotiation, complex litigation case management, legal compliance, and corporate.

Lawyers are followed by computer and information systems managers, who can expect a starting salary of R587,230 per year.

The article which was originally published on Job Mail in 2015 and updated in early 2017, goes on to list air traffic controllers as commanding around R583,450 per year. This price tag is not without risk, as air traffic controllers are known to be amoungst the most stressful jobs in the world.

Other top paying jobs according to Job Mail include petroleum engineers, actuaries, accountants, software engineers and architects.

Doctors are another of the top paying jobs in South Africa, a general practitioner reportedly earns about R476,000 per year. Job Mail notes that specialists earn significantly more, with this figure skyrocketing for those that choose specialisation over general practice.

Career Junction shows the sector with the most top paying jobs are in the engineering sector, where a senior civil and structural engineer earns an average salary of R70,300 a month (or just over R843,610) a year.

Career Junction lists top-paying sectors as finance, ICT sectors and the medical field – which is a new sector to their survey.
