Java developers, financial accountants and developers wanted

Java developers, financial accountants and developers are the most sought after skills in South Africa according to research conducted by online job portal Adzuna.

Adzuna formulated a list of the 25 jobs in South Africa with rarest skills using over 130,000 job listings. In order to compile this list they used two factors to determine the “rareness factor” of the job skill, namely the skills most sought after by companies and the demand for those jobs by South African job seekers.

The bigger the gap between the demand of the skill by employers and the supply of skilled employees, the higher the rareness factor and the higher the job would rank on the list. Where a factor of 2.0 effectively means there are twice as many vacancies for job seekers looking for that positions.

A notable trend was around skill rarity versus salary, where the more in-demand skills are afforded a much higher average salary. However this is not necessarily always the case, as with industries with such as textiles there is a need for certain skills, but they don’t pay particularly well.

These are the 25 “rarest” skills in South Africa, as well as the average salary offered as at September 2016.
