Despite posted notices at the University entrances and on the various communication platforms, hundreds of hopefuls lined up outside the gates of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) on Monday (7 January 2018), trying to gain access to study at the institution in 2019.
Following the release of the class of 2018’s matriculation results last Friday, 4 January 2019, DUT’s administration building and Gate 3 entrance at Steve Biko Campus in Durban were crowded with expectant applicants, who were pleading with the University to accept and consider their late applications.
“DUT is not accepting walk-in applications. All applicants who did not apply for DUT programmes are advised that applications are currently closed. Should there be vacant spaces, late applications may be considered with no guarantee of acceptance. Interested students can make a late enquiry by following the guidelines on the link: http://www.dut.ac.za/late-enquiries-form ,” said Maneli Mazibuko, Assistant Registrar: Student Admissions.
The University has received 83331 applications with only 8314 spaces available for the 2019 first year intake. The five most popular programmes amongst applicants are Bachelor of Health Sciences in Nursing, National Diploma: Hospitality Management, National Diploma: Journalism, National Diploma: Drama and Production Studies and Bachelor of Health Sciences in Radiography: Diagnostic.
“DUT registration will commence on Saturday, 12 January 2019. Students are urged to register online via the DUT website, or in person, at the designated registration points across the University campuses. The registration timetable can also be accessed on the DUT website,” added Alan Khan, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs.
The DUT registration fee for annual students is R3980 and R2440 for semester students. For students who will be using the university residences, the registration fee for annual students is R7960 and R4880 for semester students.
